Ruth Gowan Higgins, 93, of Clanton died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 in Clanton. She was born on Saturday, January 18, 1919 in Chilton Co., Alabama, Son of the late Dr. Jesse Earl Gowan and the late Ruth Johnson Gowan. She was a wife, mother and President of First Home Mortgage Corporation. Surviving are 2 Daughters, Ruth Mary Higgins and Sallie Juliet Higgins; Granddaughter, Miriam Juliet Higgins Landru; Grandson, Nicolas Samson Ghaffary ; Sister, Sallie Gowan Speaks ; Other family includes nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Manning Higgins. Friends will be received from 6-8, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Sunday, February 5, 2012, at 1:00 pm. at First Baptist Church of Clanton with Rev. Matt DeBord officiating. Mrs. Higgins will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Clanton City Cemetery.
