3/19/26 Obituary – Sister Mary Aimee, O.P. (Ruth Corcoran)
March 19th, 2026 Sister Mary Aimee of the Holy Spirit, O.P. (Ruth Therese Corcoran), 97, of Marbury, AL, died peacefully Thursday March 19, 2026, the solemnity of St. Joseph, at the Dominican Monastery of St. Jude, Marbury, surrounded by her religious sisters singing the traditional Salve Regina chant. She was born on August 25, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter of Dennis Corcoran and Catherine Williams Corcoran, grew up in Chicago and got a B.A. in English Literature from De Paul University before she entered the monastery in July 1951.
Sister Mary Aimee was a Dominican Cloistered Nun of the Perpetual Rosary for almost 75 years at the Dominican Monastery of St. Jude. She loved her life, consecrated to Jesus through Mary, and lived it to the hilt with great joy and generosity. With her many gifts and talents, Sister served her community as prioress, sub-prioress, novice mistress, portress, bursar, infirmarian and many other roles as well. She was very beloved by her sisters, her family, her friends, and the local community, always ready with a consoling word of sympathy, wisdom, and her charming Irish wit. She had a very green thumb, was a great cook, a wonderful storyteller and had a real eye for beauty especially when arranging flowers. More importantly though, she had great zeal for the salvation of souls, a tender love for the rosary and lively devotion to the Holy Spirit. Doing God’s will was the most important thing to her, from the time she was discerning her call to the cloister, to her final days here, this was preeminently her desire, joy, and peace.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, her four siblings Mary Ann Corcoran, Catherine Murphy, Patrick Corcoran, and Timothy Corcoran, and is survived by her Mother and Sisters at the monastery and her nephews Dennis (Julie) Corcoran, Kevin (Ellen) Corcoran, Timothy Jr. (Joanne) Corcoran, and other beloved family members. Services will be held Monday March 23, 2026 at the Dominican Monastery of St. Jude. Interment will follow at the monastery’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Dominican Monastery of St. Jude.
