Sonya Michelle Avary, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, born August 15th, 1980, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on April 18th, 2023. She leaves behind her mother, Deborah Wanda Avary, and her three siblings, Stacy Avary, James Avary Jr., and Amanda and Phillip Delatorre. She also leaves behind a grandmother and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. She was followed in death, her father, James Lewis Avary Sr.

Sonya went through life with such positivity and strength, even when facing harsh troubles and dark tragedies. Those privileged to know her, know the significant, lasting impression she will leave behind. Sonya was always there to help her family and enjoyed taking care of her siblings. She loved to be surrounded by comfort and peace, always lived in the present and took nothing for granted. Her many loved ones will miss her giving spirit and charm. She had such a gift for bringing comfort to those around her. She loved music and took pleasure in writing.  She gave so much of herself to her family and friends and those memories will live on in our hearts forever. Her loving presence will be truly missed.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, at 2pm at Pletcher Community Church.
