Sue Frances Holbrook

Sue Frances Driskell Holbrook died peacefully on January 22, 2026 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at noon at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Clanton, Alabama.  Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 to 12:00.

Sue was a retired public school teacher, having taught 30 of her 30-plus years of teaching in Chilton County, Alabama.

Sue was born on September 11, 1937 in Etowah County to the late Homer George Driskell and Leo Lively Driskell. She grew up in Gadsden with her brothers, Larry and Bobby.

Sue married James T. (Talmadge) Holbrook in 1959, while she was attending college. They lived in multiple towns before settling in Clanton in 1965. Sue continued her education and the raising of their daughters, Tammy and Vicki Lynn.

She was a dedicated Christian and member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. When she and Talmadge moved to Tuscaloosa in 2024 to be closer to their daughter, they joined Carrolls Creek Baptist Church, and Sue enjoyed her Sunday School class of retired women and made many special friends there.

Sue is survived by her husband, Talmadge, and by her daughters, Tammy (Kenny) Short and Vicki Lynn Barge. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Joshua (Kelli) Inman, Daniel (Callie) Barge, Suzanne (Todd) Williams, Lauren (Chase) Myers and by seven great-grandchildren, whom she adored and who highlighted her days with visits and phone calls.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Leo Driskell, and by her two brothers, Larry and Bobby Driskell.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of West Alabama and Heritage Health Care & Rehabilitation for their loving care of Sue.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Liberty Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
