Obituary

Tommy Lynn Porter October 15, 1942 – April 12, 2026 Tommy Lynn Porter, 83, of Jemison, passed away peacefully at UAB Hospital on April 12, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. A Life of Hard Work and Devotion Born on October 15, 1942, to Leonard and Athalee Porter, Tommy grew up in Chilton County. It was here he cultivated the resilience and work ethic that would define his life. A successful entrepreneur, Tommy dedicated many years to establishing and growing Chilton Drywall and Chilton Supply, leaving a lasting mark on the local business community. More important to him than his professional success was the beautiful life he built with his beloved wife, Linda. Together, they shared 61 years of marriage—a testament to a deep, enduring love and a partnership that served as the foundation for their entire family. A Legacy of Faith and Family Tommy was a man of profound faith who knew his Savior and was ready for his heavenly home. A longtime member of Pates Chapel Baptist Church, he spent a lifetime growing in his faith within the same church community he joined as a young man. As the patriarch of his family, Tommy was a devoted husband, father, and PawPaw. He found his greatest joy in providing for his loved ones, ensuring they were cared for in every way possible. Whether he was riding his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around on the golf cart or spending quiet days at Wind Creek, his happiest moments were those spent with "his people." When he wasn’t with family, Tommy could be found outdoors hunting and fishing, cheering on Auburn Football, or enjoying his daily "Jack’s hangouts" with his close circle of friends. Those Who Carry His Memory Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Linda Porter; his children, Cindy (Kevin) Mazingo, Michele (Shane) Headley, Kevin (Jennifer) Porter, and Darrell (Trinity) Harris; and his sister, Annie Lee (Bobby) Littleton. He leaves behind a vibrant legacy through his grandchildren: Brittany (Clint) Smith, Makenzie (Andy) Mims, Tayler (Joshua) Wright, Brody Mazingo, Lily Porter (Bailey Sammons); stepgrandchildren Alex (Tyler) Hamel, Cole Headley (Kaitlyn Cornes), Callie (Gabe) Hayes, and Madeline (Jackson) Baker; and his great-grandchildren: Sadie, Westin, Jett, Eden, and Colt; and step-great-grandchildren Nolan and Harper; great-nieces/nephews: Dara (Zach and Ryleigh) Fondren, Natalie Harris (Keith Adams). He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Athalee Porter; his brother, Leo Porter; and his sisters, Janice Marie Porter, Judy Henderson, and Kathy Elaine Porter. Service Information Funeral services will be held at Pates Chapel Baptist Church on Thursday, April 16th. • Visitation: 11:00 AM • Funeral Service: 1:00 PM • Interment: Graveside service to follow. Flowers are appreciated, however, donations can also be made to Pates Chapel Baptist Church’s Young at Heart Ministry, a program close to Tommy’s heart.
