Vernon Virgil Jones

Vernon Virgil Jones, 71, of Thorsby, Alabama passed away June 29, 2021 at St. Vincent's Chilton, Clanton, AL. He was born March 27, 1950 in Albany, Georgia, son of Vernon Jones, Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Jones. He graduated from Lee High School in 1969, he attended Alabama Christian and Troy University. From 1970-1978 he was the manager and district manager of Triangle Refineries, he was a district manger and regional manager for Kerr Mcghee. From 1978-1989 he was a regional and district manager for Swann Oil Company. In 1989 he worked for Owner Lee Fuels establishing a 1 million member client base by 1992. He was the owner of Clanton Citgo, Verns Fireworks and Jones Tobacco. He retired as manager of Sav More Grocery. Finding retirement didn’t keep Vernon occupied enough, he worked as a Seafood clerk at Publix Supermarket. He coached Junior bowling and was inducted in Lehigh Valley Junior bowling hall of fame in 1989. He was an accomplished bowler and averaged 200 plus for 20 years. High Series 824 and a High game of 300. He was an accomplished golfer establishing a handicap index as low as 8.4. He scored 2 “holes in one”. Vernon’s passions included family, cooking, golf, Auburn Football (WAR EAGLE), and he was a huge Trump supporter. He was married to Beverly Ann Spain 1970-1995. He was preceded in death by his Father, Vernon Virgil Jones, Sr.; Mother, Elizabeth Ann Jones. Surviving are his Wife, Reba Jones; Sons, Vernon Virgil Jones, III 46 , Steven (Ashlie) Jones 42; Granddaughter, Allison Nicole Jones 14; Grandson, Steven Curtis Jones Jr. 12; Brothers, Terry (Debbie) Jones, Donald (Arlene) Jones, Randy (Lisa) Jones, Ricky (Melissa) Jones, and many nieces and nephews. Vernon also proudly help raise Lakelyn Rebas grand daughter. He loved her like his own. Friends will be received Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
