Wallace Oneal Cox

Wallace O. Cox passed away peacefully in his residence in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Born in Billingsley, Alabama, on June 22, 1940, Wallace Oneal Cox was the third child of Ozella Brown and Orvil Oscar Cox, and ultimately one of four siblingsMildred, Elizabeth, Wallace, and Ralph. He grew up working hard, picking cotton and peaches, but also playing with siblings and nearby cousins, and attending county schools in elementary and junior high, going on to play football in high school, graduating from Isabella High in Maplesville, Alabama, in 1958. He served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. Wallace worked for Alabama Power Company in Montgomery, Alabama, for most of his life, beginning his career as a lineman and continuing ever upward, earning an Associates Degree and working in the accounting department. He retired in 2005. Even so, he was called on by the Power Company on several occasions to drive a company truck to cities and towns hit by tornadoes or hurricanes to restore power and provide assistance. Wallace was ready and eager to give help whenever he could. He was active in the Montgomery Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years, during which time he served as a deacon and School Board Chair. The great joys of Wallaces life were playing with his children when they were little and with his grandchildren, Anna and Miles; spending time with friends and family on Lake Martin; singing karaoke (especially anything by George Strait); visiting his sisters, nieces and nephews, and their families; and watching Alabama football. Wallace is survived by his children Adrienne Cox (Glen) Olson and Brent Cox, grandchildren Anna and Miles Olson, sisters Elizabeth (James) Shirley and Mildred Neeley, sister-in-law Susan Zekl, nieces Sonja Driver, Belinda Demirjian, Diane Graham, Gail McGowan, and nephews Kevin and Korey Cox. The funeral will be Sunday, August 4, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Funeral Home, 1300 4th Avenue North, Clanton, Alabama, 35045, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. A private family graveside committal will follow.
