Wendy Wendell Higby

Wendy Sue Wendell Higby 65, of Maplesville, formerly of Cary, IL, was born February 15, 1956 in Joliet, Illinois. Raised in Channahon, IL, she attended Minooka Community High School and graduated in 1974. Upon graduation, Wendy wed and dedicated herself to motherhood, raising her two sons Brett & Marc, and completing classes at Joliet Junior College. Wendy later became a treasured staff member in the service industry for many years. Known for her wit and good humor, she was a favorite among her family, her peers, and her customers. Wendy eventually answered her calling in education first as a warm, energetic, and creative preschool teacher, then later as a compassionate, committed and empathetic Paraprofessional for special needs children. Wendy and her devoted husband Gene recently retired and relocated to Maplesville Alabama, right next door to her dear sister and brother in law. The two have enjoyed the fellowship of new acquaintances and the charm of life in the South. Wendy loved crafting, sewing and antiquing. Countless friends and family were the fortunate recipients of her thoughtful & beautiful hand crafted creations. Wendy's worldly burdens have been lifted! While she will be forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew her, they are comforted by happy memories of her and the knowledge that they will meet again. She is survived by her loving Husband of 16 years, Gene Higby, her Children, Brett (Tiah) Phillips and Marc Phillips, her Grandsons, Ben & Luke Phillips, her precious and devoted childhood friend, Janet Hughes, her Siblings, Ted Wendell, Barbara (Jack) Hoffman, Edward Wendell, Jim (Glenda) Wendell, Ginger (Tom) Waeghe & Rod Wendell. She was a doting Aunt and Great Aunt to many, and beloved by her pampered pets, Lucky & Penny. She is preceded in death by her parents Grace Brownlee Wendell & Theodore Louis Wendell and sibling Romus Wendell and Dorothy "DOT" Wendell Johnson. In Lieu of flowers, contributions to her funeral expenses are appreciated, and can be made thru Martin Funeral Home. Friends will be received Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Parlor B.
