Wilma Jean Ray Owens, passed away on June 17, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born July 19, 1927, to her parents Lonnie and Beadie Ray.
She is the last of 10 siblings. Her four brothers were Homer, Carson, J.B. and Aubrey Ray and sisters were Esther, Ruth, Gatie, Clara, and Addie.
Wilma grew up in Chilton County and married Shelton Owens. He served in the military during WWII and received a Purple Heart.
They made a home together and farmed in the New Cedron Community where they attended church.
She liked to dress pretty, wear jewelry and her high heel sharp pointed shoes. The couple had no children, but many nieces and nephews which she loved. She had friends and neighbors and always
liked talking on the phone with them and visiting.
After becoming a widow, she moved to Clanton and attended Northside Baptist Church. The last
years of her life were spent at Hatley Healthcare. The family wishes to thank the Nurses, CNA's and all the staff.
Her family will gather on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Martin Funeral Home.
Services will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Lynn Roe and Rev. Zack Bates officiating.
Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church with Martin Funeral Home of Clanton directing.
